Abstract

This study examined the impact of the Nigerian radio program Rave FM 91.7 Oro Oselu (Word of Politics) on voter turnout and engagement in the 2023 election in Ede, Osun State. The objective was to determine the extent of Ede residents' exposure to Oro Oselu and assess the program's influence on their political engagement. The researchers based their analysis on two theoretical frameworks: agenda-setting theory and social responsibility theory. Data were collected from a survey of 399 Ede residents, using Taro Yamane's sampling method. The findings revealed that listeners were aware of and familiar with Oro Oselu. Exposure to the program on Rave FM increased the likelihood of listeners participating in voting. The researchers concluded that the broadcast duration of Oro Oselu should be extended, given its wide reach, and recommended that radio stations maintain strict neutrality during political broadcasts to ensure fair and unbiased programming.
