Bingham University Students’ Perception of the Unbundling of Communication Studies in Nigerian Universities

This study evaluated students’ perception of the unbundling of communication studies in Nigerian universities. Perception and expectancy theories provided the study’s framework, while a survey research design was employed, using a structured questionnaire administered to 400 respondents. Data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics. Findings indicated that university students have a fair understanding of the unbundling of communication studies in Nigerian universities. Additional findings showed that students gathered their information on the unbundling from appropriate and reliable sources. Empirical evidence from the study revealed that students not only viewed it as a positive development and proactive move but also perceived the unbundling as a timely decision by the National Universities Commission. Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that the unbundling of communication studies in Nigerian universities enjoys strong support and positive perception among students. Thus, it was recommended that university students should continue to maintain a positive outlook on the unbundling and seek additional information from reliable sources to fully understand the National Universities Commission's decision.
